Analyze
great songs (especially hit songs):
Whether you
like a song or not as long as the song became a great song or a hit for some
reason, it means the song writer succeeded in writing of the song. So pick some
of the greatest hits from anywhere, from countdowns, i-tunes and most
preferably billboards etc., analyze these songs and decipher what makes them
great.
Also analyze
great lyrics, because lyrics are practically the most important aspect of a
song in almost all genre of music (meaning good rhythm + bad lyrics = a bad
song). Have an ear for great lyrics this can help inspire you to write good
songs
NOTE: don’t
settle for only songs you like or a genre of music that you like because some
great lyrics that might be useful to you can be written in a genre of music you
do not listen to.
Also note
that the songs you are listening to have been produced with quite an amount of
money so don’t bother about sounding as perfect as they sound.
4.
Pair up with
another song writer:
You know the
saying two heads are better than one, yeah, it is also applicable here. Teaming
up with another writer can help compensate for certain shortcomings, especially
if the other person is good at something that might be your weakness. Also
pairing up with another can really inspire one.
5.
Only write with inspiration:
No matter
how good you are as a song writer you’ll always need inspiration. You cannot
just write good songs, you need inspiration.
Finding
inspirations for a song:
a. Listen to
your favourites: pick up your favourite albums, songs, artists and listen to
them over and over again. This doesn’t mean that you should start trying to
sound or write these people, it is just meant to help ignite an inspiration
b. Reminisce on
your life experiences – thinking about life experiences ranging from birth,
death, love etc., both good, bad and ugly can also inspire. Don’t just think
about the events also concentrating on the feelings that comes with such
experiences can also help in writing songs. Even the smallest seemingly
unimportant event like buying noodles, or shawarma or even pizza can make a
great song.
c. Going
through other great lyrics can also inspire you
d. Trying
listening to another genre of music – listening to a new genre of music can
give you a new perspective and fill you with great ideas for good songs
e. Observing your
environment – sitting in an open space and watching people’s daily activities
can help inspire especially when it difficult to get inspiration. The
conditions of your immediate environment and walking around said environment
can help inspire.I apologize for not posting this on the announced date. please forgive me
