So in this article I will be giving you tips
to performing a song very well, be it in a music competition or just a
programme in your church or a club, so sit back relax and enjoy
Whenever you want to perform always pick a
song that you are comfortable with. Most ‘musicians’ tend to pick songs that
they love or like or songs they have seen wonderful performances of and would
like to get the same reaction from their own audience, this is wrong and can be
frustrating. Because when you don’t get the same ‘wow’ reaction from your
audience as the other person, most probably because they too have seen the same
video, you will feel like a failure especially in respect to that performance
even if it was good and this feeling can steal a bit of your confidence. No
matter how much you love a song make sure you are comfortable with it before
performing it even in cases where you are not in position to change the song.
Tip 2 - Pick a key you are comfortable with
Now that you have chosen a song that you are
comfortable with it is time to test the limit of your voice in respect to the
key. When performing a song you need total control of your voice and the notes
that you sound and picking a key that is not convenient for you can affect your
control. If the key is to high you might end up straining your voice and
shouting which definitely spoils the performance and if the key is too low you
feel constrained, unable to bring out the best of your voice.
Secondly, when a key is not convenient it
negatively affects you, psychologically which in turn will affect your general
performance. So if a key is not convenient but the song is, go ahead and
transpose to a more convenient key which in most cases might be your key.
Note: as a good musician you should know your
key. Your key is basically that key you are most comfortable to sing with.
Tip 3 - Develop your voice
General growth is a part of human life. It is
also the essence of doing business, so why not grow musically too? Developing
you voice is a must for every musician. There are varieties of discipline that
can help develop your voice and maintain your voice ranging from avoiding and
reducing the intake of alcohol and tobacco (cigarette) and pastries to drinking
water frequently, getting a voice coach and so on, but that is a topic for
another article, apply this to your life daily and you will develop your voice.
